Rat Enemy, Sword Spin, Duplicate Rooms and more! https://squishstudios.net/2025/06/29/rat-enemy-sword-spin-duplicate-rooms-and-more/ Sun, 29 Jun 2025 18:00:55 +0000 https://squishstudios.net/?p=3269 Our May/June Update is here! This update brings a brand new enemy, a Sword Spin attack, the ability to Duplicate Rooms and more! We also have some other enhancements and bug fixes, check out the notes below for more details. New Features Pakrat Enemy – Pakrat is here to steal your items! The new Pakrat enemy can move up to 3 tiles at once and will home in on any items it comes within 3 tiles of and pick them up! Defeating the Pakrat will drop whatever item it picked up. Pakrat will only pickup one item, but if the item stacks it will continue to pick up more of that same item and add to the stack. Pakrat is also a small enemy so you can eat it with the Frog Glove! Yum! Sword Spin Attack – After swinging your sword, keep the button held down to charge up. Once charged, release the button to perform a Sword Spin Attack! This attack does double damage and hits everything around you. After you charge it up, you can keep the button held down and move around before you use it, however you’ll move a little slower than usually while you do this. Our May/June Update is here! This update brings a brand new enemy, a Sword Spin attack, the ability to Duplicate Rooms and more! We also have some other enhancements and bug fixes, check out the notes below for more details.

New Features

  • Pakrat Enemy – Pakrat is here to steal your items! Yum!

  • Sword Spin Attack – After swinging your sword, keep the button held down to charge up. Once charged, release the button to perform a Sword Spin Attack! This attack does double damage and hits everything around you. After you charge it up, you can keep the button held down and move around before you use it, however you’ll move a little slower than usually while you do this.

  • Copy Room and Copy Room Attributes – Hover your mouse over the Add Room button and you’ll notice two new options pop up! Now you can Copy a Room or Copy Room Attributes. Copying a room will create a Copy of everything in that room except for Doors and other objects that transition you between rooms. Links will also not copy over, however Groups will. We are looking into the possibility of allowing Links to copy over in a future update. Copy Room Attributes will copy just the attributes of that room. The most used Wall and most used Floor Tile will be used as a base for the new room. This is great for keeping a consistent theme in your dungeons without needing to readd the same design each time you make a new room.

  • Purchase from Spawners – You can now place Spawners on Scout’s Shop! Purchasing from a Spawner will activate or deactivate it. You can purchase from a Spawner multiple times!

  • Hide Grid Button – We added a new button next to the Move Room button in Build Mode. Hiding the grid will remove the grid lines from build mode and also hide other info such as door labels and links.

Bug Fixes and Enhancements

  • Design Rooms Tutorial Updated – Added a couple slides to cover the new Copy Room and Copy Room Attribute buttons.

  • Blocked Well Bug – Blocked Wells now show an invalid door icon

  • Gooliath Enhancement – Gooliath now drops down instantly when spawned in via a link

  • Bridge Bug – Bridges now properly appear over Walls

  • Key Display – Key display in Pause Menu has been updated to display 1 row of keys and maxed at 99 instead of 999

  • Updated App Icon – Gooey is ready!

  • Well bug – Fixed an issue where the player would fall into a pit after using a Well instead of spawning on a safe adjacent tile

  • Mouse Wheel bug – Fixed a bug with zooming in build mode using a mouse wheel

  • Cracked Floor Tile map bug – Cracked Floor Tiles now appear as floors on the map and pits once they are broken

  • Map Icon Updates – Updated Map icons for Boos Door and Locked Doors/Blocks

  • Gamepad Scrolling – Gamepad scrolling was enabled and we removed the alt buttons from the Control menu

  • Pan and Zoom in Map – Whatever controls are set to Pan/Zoom in build mode will also apply to the Map

  • Dungeon Details bug – Dungeon Details no longer blocks closing the menu

This one was a long time coming so thank you for your patience as we navigated switching to a new repository and some tricky Pakrat behavior! We look forward to seeing how you’ll use these new features. Thanks for your continued support as always!

  • Inactive Razor Traps – You can now place Inactive Razor Traps in build mode. Previously, only the active versions were placeable. Link to an Inactive Razor Trap to turn it on.

  • Camera Bounds in Build Mode – When building a dungeon the camera will stop moving once a room is at the very edge of the screen. No more getting lost in the build void!

  • Starting Equipment Menu Overhaul – The Starting Equipment Menu has been overhauled! It’s now much easier to specify the minimum number of players you want for your dungeon. We also added a section to let the player start with “Upgrades” such as the Dash Boots or Map/Monocular. More Upgrades will come in time! The “Shared Inventory” button is now a toggle button and when it’s active you can only edit/access Player 1’s inventory which now says “All Players” instead of “P1”.

  • Featured Dungeons – We removed the “Popular Dungeons” tab in Online Dungeons and replaced it with “Featured Dungeons”. This will be a curated list of dungeons that we’ll spotlight from time to time. Dungeons from our Designer Challenges will often appear here.

  • View all of a Designer’s uploaded dungeons – It’s now possible to view all of the dungeons uploaded by a particular Designer. When browsing a dungeon, click on the thumbnail, then click on the Designer’s name or icon to see a list of all of their uploaded dungeons.

  • New Loading Screens – New loading screens were added, it’s random which one you’ll see. Now loading is fun!

  • Transparent Switch now placeable over pits! – Now you can trigger links as you fall to your doom!

  • Dungeon Thumbnails hide more info – Previously, Dungeon Thumbnails were showing a bit too much info (hidden links, stack quantities, Door Lines and Labels, etc.). Well, it doesn’t anymore!

  • Spawner Linking Update – Grouped Spawners were not triggering links properly. Now all spawners in the group will need to have been activated and will need to have everything they spawned picked up or defeated before they trigger their link. Once cleared, the link repeats as expected, requiring the player to clear both spawners. We’ll be further enhancing this in the future with a visible marking on a spawner if it has been cleared.

  • Fireflies bug – Wait, fireflies ARE bugs, what’s the problem here? Well, they were breaking links. Fireflies placed on linked objects no longer cause issues with links working.

Phew! We’re excited to see how you use these new tools to create amazing dungeons. Thank you all for your continued support and for inspiring us to keep going!

To help we’re running another Designer Challenge starting TODAY! The challenge runs 2/1/25 – 2/8/25 We’ll play your dungeons on stream on 2/9/25! We’re going back to something we did for one of the very first creator challenges, but instead of one room it’s… The two-room challenge! Here are the rules: Create a dungeon with only two rooms One of the rooms must use the Ruins theme (it can still contain objects/décor from other themes) The rooms must connect via the new “well” décor item in the Ruins theme – either the “One Way” or “Two Way” variant Put “DC” or “Designer Challenge” in your dungeon title In the spirit of friendly competition, we’re also going to have a fun incentive this time. Our favorite dungeon will receive a special “Designer Challenge Winner!” Tag to forever highlight it. We’ll be looking at our favorite dungeon that meets the criteria above and will consider factors like how many likes it has, how it implemented unique or interesting ideas etc. We’ll play all the dungeons on stream and feature our favorites on our socials! Shield, Razor Traps, Spiked Block, and Conveyors! https://squishstudios.net/2024/08/30/shield-razor-traps-spiked-block-and-conveyors/ Fri, 30 Aug 2024 08:03:11 +0000 https://squishstudios.net/?p=3217 We have a hefty surprise update with a few exciting new objects to play with! Update Notes Shield: A new usable tool, use the shield to block damage in front of you. You’ll strafe while the Shield is out and you’ll also move slower.   Razor Traps: There are two versions, a Blue Razor Trap that automatically moves up/down or left/right until it hits something, and a Red Razor Trap that will fly at the player when they step in front of it. Finally, a full tile wide moving hazard!   Spiked Block: A block covered in spikes so the player takes damage when touching it. The spikes can be retracted via linking. There are also push-able variants that can only be pushed when the spikes are retracted.   Conveyors: We have basic conveyors added in the objects menu, we are still deciding what objects will be moveable on conveyors. So far they will move all items, enemies, blocks and some other objects. In our next update we’ll be adding linking to the conveyors as well as a switch to toggle them on and off. Stay tuned for more updates! We’re excited to see what puzzles come out of these.

Creator Challenges are when we give you custom rules to apply to your dungeon. For this challenge, we want to see some creative use of mixing themes, here are the rules: Duration: 8/11 through 8/21 Each room in your dungeon must lead to a room designed in a different theme. You can combine some elements of both themes in the room but the majority of the room should be themed to one type. So it should alternate Castle/Forest/Castle/Forest etc. You can have a room with multiple exits but Forest rooms should only lead to Castle rooms and Castle rooms should only lead to Forest rooms. The room size must be the default room size or smaller (with an exception for Forest rooms if you want to add more ceiling tiles). You can create rooms that are the same area as a default room (same number of total tiles). Put “Creator Challenge” or “CC” in your dungeon title. Your dungeon must allow up to 4 players (add 4 players, then click the checkbox on Player 2’s tab). It doesn’t need to be 4 player, just allow up to 4 players – so you can clear and upload it in single player. Have fun! If you need help reach out in Discord or on the Steam Community Forums. We’ll play the dungeons on stream!

This was a large update, here’s a full list of everything available
  • The Forest Theme is now available! This includes over 100+ new materials and dark/light color variations.

  • A new tutorial was added for “Themes”.

  • A new tutorial was added for “The Forest Theme”, won’t you help Scout touch grass?

  • Select the music that plays in your dungeon! From the Dungeon Options menu you can select a track and click the “Set Music” button to have that music play during your dungeon. You can also preview the tracks by clicking on them in this menu.

  • Three new music themes were added that can be selected as described in the previous bullet: “Forest – Light”, “Forest – Dark” and we put the “Classic” theme back in the game in case you missed it. You missed it, didn’t you?

  • Many updates to SFX such as all new Forest Theme SFX, various Build SFX, Spikes retracting, making the bomb fuse loop and “Triangle Blocks sound less pingy” (which is official composer lingo).

  • Player footstep SFX for walking on different materials such as grass, dirt, grates, bridges and more!

  • The Yellow Gooey is here to ZAP YOU! The Yellow Gooey is a new Gooey variant that moves faster and zaps the player on contact. The Yellow Gooey will also zap the player if they use their sword on it. Pro tip: try stunning it with the Frog Glove first!

  • Tooltips were updated on a handful of objects including all Wall tiles to include the keyboard shortcut for flipping a Wall.

  • The Crate was added as a new décor material in the Castle Theme. The crate can hold an item and takes two sword hits to break.

  • Tombstones and Fountain moved to the Forest Theme, signs moved to Objects, and skulls/pots moved to décor for the Castle and Forest themes respectively.

  • Health values have been adjusted for a few enemies: Cardinal Sentry now have 4hp (four hits with the sword, or just 1 bomb!). Hopscorch has 3hp now (down from 5).

  • A temporary “fill-replace” tool was added. Hold Ctrl + Left Click to replace all connected tiles of the same type with the tile you have selected. For example, if you have a complete Castle Theme wall around your room, you can select a Forest Canopy from the menu, then Ctrl + Left Click on the Castle Wall to replace the entire Wall with Forest Canopy walls in one click! We’ll be adding and revamping tools at a later date – but wanted a temporary solution in place for the time being.

  • Fix for spike layering in old dungeons (spikes were showing underneath some tiles in old dungeons due to a recent change).

As always, thank you for your continued support! We value your feedback, please let us know what you think in the Steam Community forums for our page – or in our Discord channel.

We have more great updates in the works, so stay tuned!
